AQUATIC ECOLOGIST/RESEARCHER Banchiamlak is a staff of Bahir Dar University, and teach courses such as, fish ecology, fish biology, water quality management and introduction to wetland. She is actively engaged in the research and community service activity of the university. She also volunteers in civic associations such as Forum for Environment and, Society for Ecotourism and Biodiversity Conservation. ORNITHOLOGIST/CONSERVATION BIOLOGIST Bruktawit is an ornithologist and conservation biologist currently based at the Kotebe University of Education in Addis Ababa where she works as an assistant professor. She has done several works at the field and internships in Ethiopia and other countries which helped to develop her practical bird survey skills such as conducting bird population surveys, bird ringing and raptor counts. She also carries out Environmental Education programs for kids to help them understand the importance of nature and birds. She did her PhD in the UK on one of the Critically Endangered endemic birds in Ethiopia, the Liben Lark in order to help its survival. She has also been an EDGE Fellow with the Zoological Society of London working on another Critically Endangered bird, the White-winged Flufftail in Ethiopia. Bruktawit is also a 2022 fellow of Women for the Environment Africa.

ENERGY CONSULTANT Hiwot is well versed in energy related issues including options and protection of the natural resources. Has experience in energy consultancy, promoting biomass and cooking energy. In her more than 25 years’ experience she has developed a leadership quality. Hiwote has MSc. degree in Renewable Energy from University of Oldenburg, Germany, and BSc. She has specific expertise in the sustainable utilization of natural resources for improved food security through devising strategy for clean energy access (renewable energy resources) and implementation of projects, market development by also assessing the enabling environment of the sector, biomass energy conservation and cooking efficiency improvement and has also undertaken numerous energy studies including baseline surveys, stoves kitchen performance and impact tests plus project monitoring and general impact assessments.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER/LECTURER Kenatu is an Associate Professor at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University. Kenatu received her Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry from Addis Ababa University in 2006, her Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from Addis Ababa Institute of Technology in 2011, and her Doctor of Philosophy in Water and Wastewater Treatment from the Ethiopian Institute of Water Resource at Addis Ababa University in 2018. Kenatu worked as a lecturer at the department of environmental engineering in the College of Biological and Chemical Engineering at the Addis Ababa Science and Technology University from September 2011 to November 2018 and from December 2018 to January 2023, as an assistant professor. Kenatu has more than 12 years of work experience in teaching, conducting research, and serving the community in the areas of water and wastewater, air pollution control, solid waste management, energy recovery from wastes, and thought for undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the discipline of environmental engineering. She has also supervised more than nine MSc Theses, and she is currently supervising five MSc students and one PhD student. In the field of environmental engineering, Kenatu has published more than 12 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Her area of interest is wastewater treatment research, water purification, air and water pollution control, solid waste management, and waste-to-energy conversion.

BIOTECHNOLOGIST/RESEARCHER Lulit is an instructor and researcher in biotechnology at Addis Ababa University with a BSc in applied biology and MSc in biotechnology from Addis Ababa University. She did her MSc in Biotechnology and a PhD in Industrial Biotechnology. Lulit did her MSc research at rift valley lakes such as Shalla, Abijata and Debrezeit lakes soda basic lake to see nitrogen cycle studying the bacteria living and reproducing in unfavorable conditions. She has found out that the bacteria keep the ecosystem friendly. This can be used in green industry to change harmful chemicals. She has done her PhD research in Danakil Depression, Dallol, Afar. She was the first one to prove life existed there. Lulit and her team found bacteria and archaea to clone and use bacteria to the fullest.

CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION SPECIALIST Yodit is a founding member of the Women in Water Diplomacy Network and serves on the Network Leadership Council. Professionally she works as a Climate Adaptation research officer at the Alliance of Diversity International and CIAT-Africa Hub in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Until early 2022, Yodit served as the Senior Climate Change Adaptation Advisor at the Ministry of Water, Irrigation, and Energy in Ethiopia, where she is responsible for mainstreaming climate change adaptation and resilience plans into the Ministries sectoral strategic and development projects. Her work focuses on the nexus approach of Climate, Land (Agriculture), Energy, and Water Systems. Yodit holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development from Uppsala University, a Master's course in Agricultural Economics from Haramaya University, and Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resource Economics and Management from Mekelle University.

GENDER ADVISOR Abinet is a Senior Technical Advisor for Gender and Livelihoods at CARE USA. She has over 13 years of experience in the fields of Gender, Agriculture, Nutrition, Education, and Child Protection. Previously, she served at Addis Ababa University in different capacities including as a Director for the Gender Office and a Lecturer at the Department of Philosophy followed by her role as a Senior Project Advisor at FHI 360. Abinet also worked as a Consultant for UNICEF, and Women’s Strategic Development Center. She started her career as a journalist and her engagement with CARE started in 2016 with her role as a Gender and Nutrition Advisor at CARE Ethiopia. Currently, Abinet provides gender expertise to strategic food, nutrition and water security programs including research projects, and develops gender transformative tools and strategies for promoting gender equality in the agriculture sector. Abinet is a volunteer for International Institute of Education and Network of Ethiopian Women Association. She is also a board member for the Young Women Christian Association in Ethiopia. Abinet is a 2017 Mandela Washington Fellow and holds Masters’ Degree in Gender Studies and a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.
