EDUCATOR/CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST/WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Melatwork is a Lecturer at Addis Ababa University, Department of Medical Laboratory Science with more than 10 years of experience. She has BSc degree in Medical Laboratory Science and MSc degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Hematology and Immunohematology Specialty track. Melatwork has served as the coordinator of the extension program and chairperson for the department research ethics and review committee. Melatwork has published research papers in international peer reviewed journals and currently working on multiple manuscripts for publication. Besides earning many certificates in continuous professional development trainings, she has also attended short term leadership, advocacy, peace and security training including leadership in public management at YALI RLC EA. She spends her free time by volunteering for youth empowerment organizations such as YALDA where she served as writer and content creation coordinator for the publicity and communications team. She also served as the Chairperson of the YALI RLC alumni chapter of Ethiopia. Melatwork founded her own non-profit women empowerment and mentorship program in 2019 that trained and certified young women in leadership and personal development courses to help them be efficient in their professional as well as personal lives. In 2022, She was selected to participate at the AU-EU summit in Brussels as a youth rapporteur representing YALDA. Melatwork hopes to contribute to policy making in the higher education and health sectors that will make a positive sustainable impact for her country.
