GIS ANALYST/ECONOMIST/ENTREPRENEUR
Aster is a senior GIS Analyst (IT), economist and an entrepreneur. She has ample experience in establishing and managing businesses and large- scale projects. She has accumulated vast managerial skills through her thirty plus years of experience working in government, the private sector and as a consultant in local and international organizations. Aster is a co-founder and GM of the first GIS service company in Ethiopia, Information Systems Services (ISS), the first GIS company in the country established 26 years ago. She is the founding member and principal partner of the company. Aster has led the company successfully since its establishment in 1996 G.C. Trained as a GIS analyst, she has also provided professional services for the company. She has acquired extensive experience on handling projects as an economist and in the overall management and operation of GIS/LIS projects. She successfully managed multipurpose Land Information Systems (LIS) of Addis Ababa (1997-2000) and other cities. She has specialized in GIS for Urban application, which enables her to handle LIS projects for urban/ cadastre application. She also has experience of application of GIS and Remote Sensing techniques for Master Plan Project. Aster also owns and directs The Mosaic Hotel, in Addis Ababa. In addition, Aster serves as GM of a private school, New English Private School (NEPS) which is a family-owned school that spans from pre-KG to high school. NEPS currently has eight branches in Addis Ababa and its student body is made up of local and international students. She is also one of the founders of Enat Bank and served on the Board of Director for six years. – Served as a board member of Addis Ababa Chamber – President of A.A. Hotel Owners Association – A founding board member of GISSE (GIS Society of Ethiopia) – A founding member of AWIB and FCBC – Board member of ECDD (Ethiopian Centre for Disability Development).
