GENDER ADVISOR
Abinet is a Senior Technical Advisor for Gender and Livelihoods at CARE USA. She has over 13 years of experience in the fields of Gender, Agriculture, Nutrition, Education, and Child Protection. Previously, she served at Addis Ababa University in different capacities including as a Director for the Gender Office and a Lecturer at the Department of Philosophy followed by her role as a Senior Project Advisor at FHI 360. Abinet also worked as a Consultant for UNICEF, and Women’s Strategic Development Center. She started her career as a journalist and her engagement with CARE started in 2016 with her role as a Gender and Nutrition Advisor at CARE Ethiopia. Currently, Abinet provides gender expertise to strategic food, nutrition and water security programs including research projects, and develops gender transformative tools and strategies for promoting gender equality in the agriculture sector. Abinet is a volunteer for International Institute of Education and Network of Ethiopian Women Association. She is also a board member for the Young Women Christian Association in Ethiopia. Abinet is a 2017 Mandela Washington Fellow and holds Masters’ Degree in Gender Studies and a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.
