Soleyana is a lawyer and policy expert by training. She was one of the founders of the Zone Nine bloggers, a group formed by Ethiopian online activist’s blogging on human rights and democracy issues since 2012. She also coordinated the Ethiopia Human Rights Project (EHRP), a project which seeks to bolster the advocacy work done by domestic and international actors to advance human rights in Ethiopia. Soleyana has international experience on advocacy, democratization, and policy research. She was charged under the country’s former Anti-Terrorism Proclamation as a lead defendant and she got back to Ethiopia after five years of political exile and joined the reforming National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), as a communications Advisor and Spokesperson. She led the credibility and transparency strategic pillar of the organization for three years before she left the NEBE. She is currently an independent consultant.
