Zewdie has twenty-five-year career working in UNICEF for women’s advancement in Ethiopia, following nine years working in Ethiopian government Ministries in radio programming and in promoting family life education; involved in the preparation of women’s national policy and constitution; prepared manuals on gender auditing, mainstreaming, and gender analysis and trained many men and women in government and in civil society in bringing gender concerns and analysis to the forefront of their work. She was involved in civil society’s works as a general assembly and board member/chair as well as contributing professional advice, leadership, and policy ideas on the welfare of children and women. Zewdie was able to contribute to a progressive women’s policy promulgated by the Transitional Government in 1993, to contribute to progressive language on women’s and children’s rights in the Constitution adopted in 1995, and to train many government and non‐government leaders in gender-sensitive development practices during her long career. She has Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication and Social Science, and master’s degree in Educational Administration. Zewdie has received numerous certificates, letters of appreciation, gifts from ministries, international organizations, regional governments, NGOs, religious organizations, civil societies, and farmer’s and women’s associations. Enat Bank, initiated by some of Ethiopia’s leading businesswomen, named one of its branches in her name.
